He uses the season of summer as a basis of comparison to the person he is writing about. ââ¬Å"Shall I compare thee to a summerââ¬â¢s day? / Thou art more lovely and more temperateâ⬠. Shakespeare states that this person is even more beautiful than a summer day. They are also gentler than a harsh sun, which shines brightly and causes the sun to beat too hotly and raise the temperature too high. He refers to the sun with another metaphor, ââ¬Å"the eye of heavenâ⬠. Shakespeare also says that summer goes by too quickly. He is metaphorically saying that the presence of this person will end shortly because they will die too soon and ââ¬Å"autumnâ⬠will begin.
